[toggle title=”Regulatory Environment”]

Generally the Spanish regulatory environment is relaxed, with few controls on foreign investment. There are standard registration and accounting regulations for companies to complete when operating in the company, and some strategic sectors such as telecommunications are restricted to non-EU investors. The labour market has stricter regulations for both employers and employees; the maximum working week is 40 hours and companies are obligated to provide employees with six weeks annual leave.

[toggle title=”Banking Facilities and Financial Incentives”]

Spain has more banks than any other country in the EU. This combination of all the major international banks and range of regional banks means the country can offer comprehensive business banking facilities. Opening a bank account can be a bureaucratic challenge however, and is required during incorporation.

Many of Spain’s financial incentives are EU funded. These include;

  • regional incentives for investment in less developed areas of the country
  • measures to encourage investment in specific sectors
  • tax breaks aimed at reducing unemployment among young people

The workforce in Spain is well educated and skilled and despite the strict regulations, labour costs are low. Unemployment is considerably above the EU average in Spain, with a huge availability of staff across all sectors. Local recruitment agencies will help you find the right staff for your business.
